STUDENT PROJECT 2
This skateboard design project for an advanced Photoshop compositing course was one of the most fun in all of design school. Students were free to create any design to be printed and wrapped around the bottom of a wood skateboard, so, of course, I was going to create something music-related.
The inspiration for the design was my love of the smooth and soulful music of the late 1970s and early 1980s and the musical brand I've been developing called 'Marina Soul Club.' In my work as a deejay, I play music of the era at a beautiful wine bar/bistro called Melody Los Angeles with the tunes all on vinyl. Guests dine and sip wine as I set lovely musical vibes from the deejay booth.
For the design, I converted photos of some of my favorite artists of the era: Steely Dan, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Chaka Khan, and others, using colors and images reminiscent of California beach life and the skateboard culture that grew within it.
